Our Aventuras Cafe Experience

Four semi-adventurous tourists from New Hampshire arrived in Puerto Jimenez in July 2024 for a week of fun and relaxation on the beautiful Osa Peninsula. In a remarkable display of spontaneity, we had made almost no plans at all. And by sheer luck, our first stop in town was for breakfast at the Aventuras Cafe, which was just around the corner.

We could not have stumbled into a better place! Tamar, Alberto, and the entire team welcomed these four strangers with open arms. The Aventuras Cafe became our headquarters for the week and Tamar and the team served as chefs, tour guide advisers, cultural liaisons, and language consultants. They explained “Pura Vida” and other Costa Rican terminology. Their guidance was invaluable.

Oh, and they also served the best meals we ate during our time in Costa Rica. The Aventuras Cafe consistently prepared beautiful food, including a special dinner one night from “off the menu.” The traditional food and fresh ingredients, particularly the avocado, were fantastic, as were the carrot cake and every shake we tried. Tamar kept showing up each morning, sometimes bleary-eyed, to create “Greg’s coffee,” a hand-crafted iced “Americano” better than any coffee he’s ever had. Try it!

The food and the atmosphere were great, all with exceptional service. We felt truly welcome at Aventuras Cafe and we will always have great memories of the time we spent there.
